Lidiane Jones, CEO of Salesforce-owned, Vancouver-founded workplace communication platform Slack, is set to leave the company and take over for Bumble founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd in the coming months.

According to Bumble, Wolfe Herd plans to transition to executive chair of Bumble and Jones will become the women-friendly, United States (US) dating app’s CEO in early January 2024.

With Lidiane Jones out, Salesforce will need to find another person to lead Slack.

Bumble announced the leadership change this morning, noting that Jones will remain with Slack until the end of 2023. With Jones soon to be out after just a year as Slack CEO, US customer relationship management software giant Salesforce will need to find a new person to lead Slack.

In a statement, Jones said that she has long admired Bumble’s mission, adding, “I am also grateful to have the support of my colleagues at Slack and Salesforce, and I remain tremendously confident in what they will accomplish together.”

Jones, who was previously Salesforce’s executive vice president and general manager of digital experiences clouds, became CEO of Slack in December 2022, succeeding Slack founding CEO Stewart Butterfield.

Butterfield left Slack roughly a year and a half after the company was purchased by Salesforce for a whopping $27.7 billion USD in a cash and stock deal first announced in December 2020.

But Salesforce has struggled to integrate some of its larger acquisitions, including Slack. Since late 2022, the company has lost co-CEO Bret Taylor and key executives behind some of its biggest bets, from Butterfield and other Slack leaders to Tableau Software CEO Mark Nelson.

Earlier this year, Salesforce laid off 10 percent of its staff in cuts that impacted Slack, Tableau, and Salesforce’s Canadian workforce.

Nasdaq-listed Bumble has faced difficulties of its own. Bumble and its competitor Match Group, which owns Tinder and Hinge, have seen their shares fall amid a dating app slump.
