Toronto-based mobile device management startup Springdel has secured $5 million in Series A financing.
The financing round was led by Silicon Valley-based Carbide Ventures with participation from Beyond Ventures.
The fresh capital will be used to drive product development, specifically around artificial intelligence and declarative device management.
Founded in 2018 by co-CEOs Calvin Chung and Afzal Mawji, Springdel has developed Springmatic, a platform that allows enterprises to control, secure, and enforce policies on various mobile devices to ensure they are used safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies.
“Our platform is purpose-built to support mission-critical device management that can adapt to the rapid change and innovation enterprises are experiencing,” Chung said in a statement.
The fresh capital will be used by Springdel to drive product development, specifically around artificial intelligence (AI) and declarative device management, the latter being a more advanced way to manage devices.
With traditional mobile device management, a server continuously monitors and directs each device’s actions, which requires frequent communication between the device and the server.
Apple first introduced declarative device management to its existing device management protocol in 2021. According to the tech giant, this gives devices a set of policies or “declarations” by the server that encompass various configurations and rules that the device can autonomously apply without waiting for instructions from the server.

Chung explained that Springdel is focusing on AI and declarative device management to provide “a more proactive, adaptive, and intelligent solution to our customers to manage their device fleets.” He added that these technologies can reduce downtime, enhance security and optimize resource utilization for businesses.
With the funding, Springdel specifically plans to focus on predictive maintenance, intelligent alerts, notifications, cognitive analytics, and reporting.
This investment will also be used to support Springdel’s expansion in its core markets and support new partnerships. According to Springdel’s website, the platform has more than 1,000 enterprise customers, including Fortune 500 companies, and operates in over 20 countries. Among its customers are Cathay Pacific, Unilever, and 7-Eleven.
