Indian-based digital services and consulting giant Infosys has announced plans to hire another 500 people in Calgary over the next two years, doubling the firm’s original commitment when it first expanded to the city in 2021.
These additions will support Infosys as the firm pursues broader expansion efforts across Canada, where it hopes to double its overall workforce from around 4,000 to 8,000 employees by 2024.

According to Infosys, this office will help the company work with clients in the region to develop solutions in areas like intelligent automation, cleantech, user experience, and other advanced digital technologies.
“We chose to open in Calgary because it is a center of tech excellence with rich [information technology (IT)] talent and a strategic location that enables us to scale work with clients across key industries, such as energy, natural resources and agriculture,” said Kumar. “Calgary’s IT innovation potential is unlimited, and we are delighted to be a part of its future.”
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney highlighted that it’s been just over a year since Infosys’ original Calgary plans were announced, noting that the firm has “already delivered” on this commitment. “I’m very pleased they are doubling that promise,” said Kenney.
The company’s initial decision to move to Calgary was supported by Calgary Economic Development and the Invest Alberta Corporation. The city, which has a burgeoning tech scene, is working to embrace digital transformation and expand and diversify its economy beyond just oil and gas.

“Infosys’ choice to establish Calgary as a major technology centre is a big moment for our city and further demonstrates our city as a prime destination for the world’s leading technology companies,” said Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek.
Infosys isn’t the only international tech giant to expand its presence in Calgary over the past year or so. In June 2021, IT solutions provider Mphasis disclosed plans to open a Canadian headquarters in the city and hire up to 1,000 people. Amazon is also set to open a cloud computing hub in the city next year, with plans to hire 950 employees. Earlier this year, IBM Canada announced that it would be launching an innovation centre in Calgary and hiring 250 staff.
According to the latest CBRE report, Calgary has the 28th fastest-growing tech talent pool in North America, putting it behind only Toronto-Waterloo, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montréal in Canada.
Infosys has been growing its North American presence since 2017, with Canadian offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montréal, and six offices across the United States (US). According to Infosys, the firm’s presence in Calgary will enable it to scale its work with clients in Canada, the Central US, and Pacific Northwest, with a focus on clients in the natural resources, energy, media, retail, and communications sectors.
