I honestly can’t believe I survived.

“There was a bit of ego raising.” “I think it has been a disaster.” “I read BetaKit for the truth.”

Last week at SAAS NORTH, somehow, I not only moderated two conversations on the BetaKit Keynote Stage and hosted a live podcast recording in front of our adoring (and amazing!) listeners, but also knocked out seven additional interviews in our specially constructed BetaKit Podcast booth.

Those seven interviews comprise this week’s episode while I rest my vocal cords and vow never to talk so much again (credit to producer Kattie and a new favourite tea brand for keeping me listenable).

Now, they’re not the whole interviews – those will be published in full articles on BetaKit. But the selected pieces, featuring thoughtful people from across the Canadian tech spectrum, together paint a detailed portrait of the ecosystem as a crazy year comes to a close.

In the first half, we have VCs, OGs, and CEOs of publicly traded tech companies broadly discussing the “state of the market.” On the back half, operators from Unbounce, Clio, and Shopify offer tactical advice to help other Canadian tech companies navigate said market. To cap it off, two tired journalists sit down to discuss reporting in a downturn and why no one seems to like/trust/enjoy media anymore.

If a particular clip piques your earbuds and you’re looking for more, each full segment will be linked below once it’s live on BetaKit. You can also just subscribe to the full playlist on SoundCloud, which also contains all recorded conversations from last year.

Let’s dig in.

OMERS Ventures’ Laura Lenz on why “ego raising” is over & down rounds are coming
L-SPARK’s Leo Lax on why 2022 was a “disaster” for SaaS
Coveo’s Louis Têtu on market cycles, mentorship, and “recipes for failure”
Ria Bhavnani on Shopify’s approach to pricing
Unbounce’s Peter Housley on hitting your targets in a downturn
Clio’s Natalie Archibald on ‘digital-first’ workplaces and redesigning the office
The Globe’s Sean Silcoff on reporting in a downturn and the state of media in 2022
